History of the club

Narromine Turf Club was established in 1906 but interest declined and it was re-constituted in 1925 under President Roy Barlow and Secretary Bob Barnett. The Club has raced annually since then except for the war years and the 1957 Flood. In the early days the Gold Cup was raced on Caulfield Cup Day until Racing NSW changed the date to August but the Club continues to race on Caulfield Cup Day. The largest meeting held in Narromine was in 1946 when 5000 people attended and there were 48 bookmakers to cater for the needs of the large crowd.

A new stable complex was built in 1996 and was officially opened by the then Governor of NSW Gordon Samuels. In 2009 the Club, with the help of the Narromine Shire Council and the Federal Government constructed a new pavilion which provides under cover protection for patrons and betting facilities. This pavilion was opened in October 2009 by the Mayor Dawn Collins and named the Les Gibson Racing Pavilion after previous Club Patron and Life Member Les Gibson (deceased 2016)
